Even though a majority of work in this discipline is presented in a 2D form, I enjoy the flexibility to showcase a design in a 3D model. These models can enhance the design by showing how an overhead structure can provide shade to a particular area or how a grill area will have enough space to entertain 12-16 people.
I find it rewarding to give people another space to enjoy, entertain or relax in outside their home. I try to barbeque a few times a month not only to try new food but to enjoy the space I created. Time spent in my backyard with friends and family is very important to my wife and me. The design of the space was driven by how we intended to use it.
Every client’s vision is different, which makes my job exciting. Being able to listen to a client’s interests and determine how they intend to use a space drives the design process. Some people are master gardeners, some like lots of lawn, and some just like to barbeque. Figuring out the best possible solution for a client so they may ultimately enjoy a space they are proud of is a challenge I enjoy.
My wife Emily and I recently adopted a dog Hanzo, who we are absolutely smitten with. I enjoy playing golf as it is very humbling, and enjoy snowboarding as it is very rewarding (when I’m not falling down). I am a hopeless Illini fan up here in Badgerland. We enjoy entertaining our family and friends from out of state taking in the many sights and sounds Milwaukee has to offer as well as a brewery tour or two.
